The R.D. Wood elementary school, based in Millville, New Jersey, is home to 250 students. Longtime Principal Harry Drew oversees a staff of 20, handling students ranging from kindergarten through 5th grade. R.D. Wood has long relied on guards and traditional alarm systems, however, recent, unfortunate national events left Principal Drew and the School Board seeking alternative, preventative security measures.
Members of Layr met Principal Drew, and after learning about the school’s unique circumstances and needs, were thrilled to help protect the school and New Jersey’s youth. As part of Layr’s ongoing social investment program, R.D. Wood was protected using a combination of 3M’s Ultra S800 film applied to glass door and window interiors. Entrances were further upgraded with an anchoring system, attaching the glass and film to existing window frames. The school now enjoys the same level of protection afforded to US Embassies, with glass doors and windows rating through 32,000 pounds per square inch of tensile strength. Layr’s 3M film and attachment system provide federal-grade security; rating through a “minimal hazard” per GSA bomb blast standards.
“There is nothing more important than education, and for faculty and students to feel secure in a school. Principal Drew is passionate about his community, and we were thrilled to help, and to invest in this long-standing pillar of public education”, said Layr Founder and CEO, William Pulman.
Harry Drew, Principal of RD Wood School commented; “Mr. Pulman and the staff of Layr have been an invaluable asset to our school. The installation of Layr Protection on the doors of our school was done professionally and they worked with us on setting up a great time for installation. I have nothing but praise for this company that donated their time and product to the students, staff and parents of R.D. Wood School. As principal of this school, the safety of my students and staff is of the upmost importance. I know that with Layr’s protection, we are now a safer school. I want to thank Mr. Pulman and his staff for all they have done for R.D. Wood School. When you think of community partners, Layr is a company that cares about people and their safety.”
